Every room needs a focal point, a place for the eye to rest. It can be a fireplace, a large picture window or a fantastic piece of art.
When you use art as a focal point, keep a few things in mind. Don’t over do it. Don’t hang 2 different pieces of art on the same wall. They will compete with each for attention and it will be confusing to the eye. Instead, choose one amazing piece as your focal point, BUT, make sure you consider the colour of the wall on which you’re planning to hang your art.
The colour of the wall can dramatically affect which colours in the art work stand out. You’ll notice in this photo, the teal wall really brings out the blue tones in the painting.
Now in this next photo, you’ll notice how the neutral wall colour brings out the neutral tones in the painting.
Take a good look at the colours in the art work you’re planning to make your focal point and consider a wall colour as an accent that will highlight the colours you like.
One final note. Hang all your art work at the same level, 60 inches from the floor to the centre of the piece. It will create flow and a unified and pleasing look, as you’ll see in this next photo.

Do you know the name of the teal wall paint?
No I’m sorry I don’t. It is a Benjamin Moore colour although I’m not sure how much that will help.
